MINNEAPOLIS — Weed management has changed dramatically in recent years. Farmers are faced with a growing number of challenges including weeds resistant to an expanding list of chemistries. Herbicide resistance issues don’t just go away, and an increasing number of weed populations in MN are resistant to multiple herbicide chemistries or site of action (SOA) groups.
How can we combat weed resistance issues, and what can we do to help preserve the tools we have including those coming onto the market?
Plan to attend a U of MN Extension “Strategic Farming – Are You Resistance Ready” workshop to learn more about herbicide resistance and what you can do to help manage weeds and prevent resistance issues from expanding. We will also discuss the new herbicide-resistant crop technologies, while learning about the latest research and information on the importance of weed biology and cultural tools to help develop effective weed management programs for today and the long-run.
In January, the program will be held in conjunction with the Southern Research and Outreach Center (SROC) 2017 Winter Crops Day program at the following locations:
- January 13 (from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m.) at Events Sports Bar and Grill, 401 8th Street, SE, in Kasson.
- January 13 (from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.) at the SROC in Waseca.

In February, the program will be held at the following locations:
- February 22 at the American Legion, 613 Legion Drive, in Montevideo.
- February 23 at the 4-H Building-Exhibit Hall, 3048 S Broadway Ave., in Slayton. (NOTE this session will be followed by a noon lunch, a cover crop and manure presentation @ 12:30, and the Southern Small Grains Tour from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.).
- February 24 at the American Legion, 620 1st Avenue South, in St. James.
- February 24 at the Event Center, 1005 Highway 15 South, in Hutchinson.
