MANCHESTER, Iowa — The Delaware County Market Beef Weigh-In was held on Sunday, December 15th at NFO Livestock in Manchester. 4-H and FFA members planning to exhibit market steers, market heifers, dairy beef, and Pen of 3 animals brought their animals to weigh-in to be identified, tagged, and weighed-in for the 2025 Delaware County Fair and Iowa State Fair.
A record-breaking total of 376 market beef animals were weighed in this year, which included 322 Delaware County animals and 54 out-of-county animals. Many out-of-county families attended Delaware County’s weigh-in due to their own county’s weigh-in being rescheduled.
Delaware County’s participation numbers from our beef exhibitors still remain high. 97 4-H and FFA members are exhibiting market beef this year with 13 of them being new to the project area. Other stats from the weigh-in include a total of 46 Pens of 3 being weighed-in and 18 animals identified for State Fair.
Our 4-H and FFA programs provide many opportunities for our beef exhibitors to showcase their learning through market beef animals, as well as breeding beef and cow-calf projects.
Thank you to all the exhibitors, parents, and volunteers, especially the Delaware County Cattlemen and NFO Livestock for all your help during the weigh-in. With this many youth and cattle, it takes a large number of volunteers to make this possible.
After beef weigh-in 4-H members must enter all their beef weigh-in information in 4honline by February 1, 2025. Step by step instructions can be found on our website. If more assistance is needed, contact the Extension Office at 563-927-4201.
