NEWARK, Del. — The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Delaware is reminding farmers and landowners that the deadline to apply for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) is December 19, 2024. Agricultural producers and owners of non-industrial private forestland and Tribes are eligible to apply for CSP. Eligible land includes cropland, pastureland, non-industrial private forestland and other farm or ranch lands. CSP contracts are for 5 years with a minimum yearly payment of $4,000 each year.
Through CSP, agricultural and forestry producers and landowners can receive financial assistance for the active management, enhancement, and expansion of conservation practices on their operations. These practices may include cover crops, ecologically based pest management, and buffer strips, all of which contribute to improved soil health and water quality. Additional CSP activities also support the preservation and growth of habitats for pollinators and other beneficial insects, promoting a balance between agricultural productivity and environmental stewardship.
NRCS provides free technical assistance to give producers personalized advice and information. Producers who wish to advance their operations can work with NRCS staff to create a personalized conservation plan that outlines practices to achieve both agricultural and environmental goals.
Special provisions are also available for historically underserved producers. NRCS sets aside CSP funds for historically underserved producers.
NRCS has provided leadership in a partnership effort to help America’s private landowners and managers conserve their soil, water, and other natural resources since 1935.
