PRINCETON, Ky. — Caleb Ragland of Magnolia was elected President of the American Soybean Association (ASA) on December 12. ASA represents U.S. soybean farmers on domestic and international policy issues important to the soybean industry. ASA has 26 affiliated state associations representing 30 soybean-producing states and more than 500,000 soybean farmers. Ragland and the other directors have been hard at work on far-reaching issues including the Farm Bill, biomass-based biofuels, transportation and infrastructure, sustainability and conservation, international trade, and more.
Ragland began serving his fellow soybean farmers when he was elected to the Kentucky Soybean Association board of directors in 2014. He has served at the national level since 2017, most recently as vice-chairman. In addition to his role with ASA, he is currently a director on the Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board and President of the Kentucky Livestock Coalition.
He is joined on the officer team by Vice-President Scott Metzger of Ohio, Secretary Dave Walton of Iowa, and Treasurer Alan Meadows of Tennessee. Heather Feuerstein (MI); Tanner Johnson (WI); Jimmie Lee Shaw (SC); and Jordan Scott (SD) will serve as at-large members of the executive committee.
Ragland is only the second Kentuckian to serve in this prestigious role.
