EAST LANSING, Mich. — All layers in Ohio totaled 43.9 million during October, up 5 percent from a year ago, according to Ben Torrance, State Statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. Egg production totaled 1.13 billion eggs, up 5 percent from last year. The rate of lay during October was 2,572 eggs per 100 layers.
United States egg production totaled 9.19 billion during October 2024, down 4 percent from last year. Production included 7.89 billion table eggs, and 1.30 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.21 billion were broiler-type and 92.4 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during October 2024 totaled 377 million, down 3 percent from last year. October egg production per 100 layers was 2,438 eggs, down 1 percent from October 2023.
Total layers in the United States on November 1, 2024 totaled 377 million, down 3 percent from last year. The 377 million layers consisted of 312 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.2 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.62 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on November 1, 2024, averaged 78.8 eggs per 100 layers, down 1 percent from November 1, 2023.
Turkey eggs in incubators on November 1, 2024 in the United States totaled 25.0 million, down 2 percent from November 1, 2023. Turkey poults hatched during October 2024 in the United States totaled 20.7 million, down 9 percent from October 2023. The 18.8 million net poults placed during October 2024 in the United States were down 9 percent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier.
