COLOGNE, Minn. — The results are in from the nationwide Sheep and Goat Producers Needs Assessment. The University of Minnesota Extension is hosting a free webinar on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to look at the findings. Farmers, 4-Hers, veterinarians, nutritionists, and hobby farmers are invited to attend.
The South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension Small Ruminant Team will provide the results from sheep and goat producers across the U.S. that identifies producer interests and will enhance future Extension programming efforts. They will provide responses collected from a nationwide Sheep and Goat Producers Needs Assessment.
Panelists include:
- Kelly Froehlich, Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Specialist in Small Ruminant Production
- Jaelyn Quintana, SDSU Extension Sheep Field Specialist
- Heidi Carroll, SDSU Extension Livestock Stewardship Field Specialist and Beef Quality Assurance Coordinator
- Travis Hoffman, Assistant Professor and NDSU/UofM Extension Sheep Specialist
“We believe this nationwide response will add value by identifying collective producer strengths and struggles to cooperatively strengthen Extension program efforts,” says Kelly Froehlich, Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Specialist in Small Ruminant Production. “This year provides a timely opportunity to gather producer preferences on production and management topics and program delivery as well as identify challenges to raising and marketing these animals and products, and finally to learn more about farm and ranch demographics.”
Upon hearing the 2021 nationwide needs assessment, Dr. Travis Hoffman will lead the discussion to determine Minnesota and North Dakota sheep and goat Extension efforts for 2022. “Our University of Minnesota Extension Sheep & Goat Team aspires to be responsive to our stakeholders. We will provide a forum for discussion to shape educational programming that is timely and important for our producers,” says Hoffman.
