DUTCHESS CO., N.Y. — The 4-H Youth Development Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County will offer a tractor and machinery safety training program for youth. The program will be offered from February 23rd through April 1st, 2017 at the Farm and Home Center on Route 44 in Millbrook. There is a $45 registration fee to cover the cost of the course materials and the registration deadline is February 3rd, 2017. A parent/guardian consent form will need to be completed with registration.
This training program will enable young workers to obtain Hazardous Occupations Order in Agriculture (HOOA) certification, which is required to operate farm tractors and equipment. The program will provide attendees with the necessary 24 hours of instruction, and it will include group discussions, demonstrations, hands-on activities, independent study, and field assignments. Upon completion of instruction, a written exam and driving test will be offered to achieve certification. The program is available to all youth. Youth ages 8-13 may participate in the classroom portion (with help from parents where needed), however only individuals 14 and older will be able to operate equipment and become certified. Individuals over age 15 are encouraged to attend as well, although enrollment preference will be given to those ages 14-15. This event is generously sponsored in part by Reardon Briggs Co. Inc.: www.reardonbriggs.com.
